Bullies stalk our two brand new stories today.

In a bitter-sweet memoir entitled Cold, cold tarmac, Edinburgh-born Garry Stanton recalls the bully who still haunts the memories of his school days.

Sentinel Blues is also dominated by a bully, one that is gung-ho, high-tech and lurks in the sky. With another war in the Middle East looming, this gripping drama from the assured hand of Glaswegian Pat Black is more than timely.

Aye, We Shoor Caan!

The launch at the weekend of Being Scots, our third anthology, marked the 25th McKindle to be published under the McStorytellers label.

We’re delighted to announce that yesterday publication Number 26 followed close on the anthology’s heels. It’s entitled Larry Kynn: A Case Study in Misadventure and it’s authored by the inimitable Angus Shoor Caan, who describes his blockbuster as “A mega road-trip of sorts crossing all five continents and every one of the seven seas.”

Both our latest publications can be downloaded from Amazon for a mere 77p a pop, so they’re hardly likely to break the bank. The same goes for all of our other two dozen McKindles. Just hover over Oor McKindles in the sidebar on the left and you’ll be able to browse our virtual bookshop.

Baring It All - For FREE

Yesterday saw the launch of our latest anthology at the legendary Edinburgh eBook Festival. In case you missed the excitement, here's what we said:

The showcasing this morning of Festival Director Cally Phillips’ brilliant Jings, crivens, help ma Boab, it’s independence! concluded McStorytellers’ hosting of the Short Story slot at this year’s Festival. Did we save the best till last? Well, of course we did. (But we would say that, wouldn’t we? We want to be invited back to next year’s Festival!)

Anyway, we at McStorytellers hope that all the stories we’ve presented have kept Festivalgoers entertained over the last twelve mornings. And we’re delighted to announce that the stories have been brought together and published in our latest anthology, paperback and Kindle editions of which are now available from an Amazon outlet near you.

The new anthology is called, simply, Being Scots. The stories therein comprise twelve highly different takes on that subject by a dozen disparate writers. (That’s disparate, folks, not desperate!) Yet, as we said on the opening day of the Festival, common threads run through the pieces. It would seem that we Scots are not afraid to own up to our failings. Nor are we afraid to laugh at them. In fact, we’re quite willing to wear our hearts on our sleeves, baring everything to friends and foes alike. And, as that iconic Braveheart moment on the anthology’s cover confirms, we’re also willing when the occasion arises to bare our arses to our foes!

Hopefully, therefore, Being Scots will help to scotch (pardon the pun) the belief that we’re a dour race. And our next announcement will surely go a long way to debunking the myth that we’re a mean lot. Because not only is the Kindle edition of Being Scots FREE to download all this weekend, so also are our two previous anthologies, The McFestival Dozen and The McCollection. Back in October last year, in a post entitled Home Truths, we introduced a very courageous Dundonian McStoryteller called Kirsty Eccles, we showcased her first published story and we told you about the publication of her debut ebook, The Price of Fame.

Romantic Notions

All of the protagonists in our three brand new stories today are full of romantic notions.

For a start, there’s a whole line-up of wannabe pop idols in A Star Is Born. It’s the debut story of McStorytellers newcomer, Ardrossan-born Sandy Wardrope. And it’ll keep you guessing to the end.

It’s followed by a double-bill of cracking tales from regular McStoryteller, Aberdeen-based Bill Robertson.
