Tattie Zkowen's Perfect Days
by Angus Shoor Caan
Back in 1972, Lou Reed wrote and recorded Perfect Day, the song that would become a classic, an anthem to mellow and contentedness.
Forty years later, Ayrshire author and poet Angus Shoor Caan has succeeded in capturing the spirit of the song in this trilogy of linked short stories. Each story is a warm-hearted, feel-good tale of ordinary Scots working folk. And each describes a perfect day – West Coast Scotland, rather than New York, style. (The fact that both the song and the stories may well pay homage to certain recreational substances is purely coincidental, by the way.)
A word of warning, though. The stories are written completely in Tattie Zkowen's native Scots tongue. So if ye cannae handle that, dinnae bother wi' it. But if ye can, c'moan noo an' chill oot wi' Tattie as he embarks oan his ain perfect days.
