Standing Up While Lying Down
by Michael C. Keith
Genre: Humour
Swearwords: A couple of mild ones.
Description: A wife takes a sleepy revenge.
_____________________________________________________________________
Her husband had verbally abused Margo for years. Because he had a volatile temper, she feared confronting him about it. Finally, she came up with a plan.
“You’re a lousy bastard for saying that to me!” she blurted, continuing. “You say that to me again, and I’m going to smash you in your ugly face . . .!”
Her husband leapt from their bed, astonished by what he heard and ready to retaliate with his meaty hands.
“Shit . . . I can’t do anything! She’s talking in her sleep,” he moaned.
Margo could hear her husband’s frustrated grumbles as she pretended to be asleep.
“You’re a terrible excuse for a husband. What kind of a man says such horrible things to his wife?”
“Oh, shut your yap,” mumbled her spouse, returning to bed and pulling the covers over his head to block her voice.
It took everything Margo had to keep from letting out a howl of satisfaction. There will be many more nights of payback, she thought, slipping into a peaceful dream . . . the first of many.
