It’s Wednesday on McStorytellers, time for the latest instalment of Aberdeenshire-born Annie Christie’s exciting new McSerial, That Long Hot Summer.
After their visit to the Calais Jungle in last week’s episode, Shelley and Daniel vow to make a difference. They begin with a spot of people smuggling. And they’re not averse to some sleight of hand and misdirection along the way. Read the full story now in Episode Eight. Remember, you can catch up with all the earlier episodes simply by tapping (or using your cursor to hover over) Oor McSerials in the left-hand sidebar and then following the trail. In order to set the scene for our story today, Aberdeenshire writer and blogger Patrick Hutchison has supplied this picture and the following description:
The photo is o Loch Craig and Tarlair Wall Hoosie beside Macduff. The wee hoosie tae the richt is the Water Wall o Tarlair. At the far richt o the wee bey, jist far it bends, wiz the scaups far the fisher fowk stored their mussels for bait in the rock pools tae keep them fresh. Now go and read the story. It’s called If I Catch Ye I’ll Eat Ye. And it’ll give you a wee laugh on a dreich Monday. It’s back! After a short break, we’re delighted to resume today Annie Christie’s latest McSerial, That Long Hot Summer.
In this week’s instalment, Daniel and Shelley travel to Calais to begin an adventure that will change the course of their lives. The story is, as the lady once said, of great social and political import. Read Episode Seven now. And remember, you can catch up with all the earlier episodes by tapping (or using your cursor to hover over) Oor McSerials in the left-hand sidebar and then following the trail. Oor man fae Saltcoats, Angus Shoor Caan, has sent us one of his trademark quirky stories. So here, as a Saturday treat, is The Barefoot Bishop, a feelgood (or is that feetgood?) tale of mutual understanding and co-operation across the religious divide.
Enjoy – but mind your step! A century ago, James Leatham moved from Hull to Turriff and began a serialisation called Twixt Desk and Shelves in his magazine, The Gateway. To commemorate the centenary of The Deveron Press, which he founded on his move to Turriff, we are delighted to have the opportunity to McSerialise the first ten episodes of this series, which ran, on and off, for the next thirty years.
In this week’s final instalment, Leatham makes an impassioned and compelling case for a meatless diet. Enjoy Episode Ten. And remember, you can catch up with all the earlier episodes simply by tapping (or using your cursor to hover over) Oor McSerials in the left-hand sidebar and then following the trail. To find more work by James Leatham, go to the new online FREE Gateway magazine. And to buy full works by James Leatham go to the Deveron Press Catalogue.
