Aye, the long, the short and the tall. They all used to gather in the backroom of Ri Poacher’s Poakit. Then Ri new fulla joined them.

Tomorrow is National Libraries Day. To remind us what libraries used to be like back in the unenlightened Seventies, here’s a story by Turriff-based writer-turned-publisher Cally Phillips. For the wee girl in Wha’s feart o’ the library?, it really was a case of “let there be light” in the dark recesses of the children’s section.
The story is part of Cally’s second short story in Scots collection, It Wisnae Me. For the whole of February you can download the collection in all ebook formats for FREE at unco. Alternatively, you can download the Kindle version from Amazon for the standard price. Cally's first collection, Voices in ma Heid, is also available from Amazon (Kindle) and unco (all formats). So enjoy the story, go download those collections and remember your local library! When you look back and remember your dear auld mither, as Bo’ness poet and writer Glenn Muir does in today’s tale, you realise that she wasn’t just precious – she was one of an endangered species!
Enjoy Save the Rhino. It's Wednesday. It’s McSerial day on McStorytellers. So it's time for the latest instalment of Annie Christie’s To Die For.
Teenager Heather and to-die-for young German artist Freddie have found that magical place in the Galloway Forest at last. What’s more, they’re going to spend the whole weekend there. Will Heather’s dreams of romance come true? You’ll only find out by reading Episode Five. Remember, you can catch up with the previous four episodes by using your cursor to hover over Oor McSerials in the left-hand sidebar and then following the trail. “They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday’s just as bad” Forget the wind and rain and get yourself back down to the Saltcoats Labour Club with local man Brian Morrison for more of the Dark Stranger’s adventures among the cowpokes and good-time gals. As one good-time gal declares, Saltcoats is Not A One-Horse Town. Enjoy the floor show! We’re kicking off the McStorytellers week with a spot of time travel. Not with The Doctor. But with that other master of time and space, Dalmuir-born writer Alasdair McPherson.
So get ready to go back to the future in A Timely Intervention. And enjoy the ride! |
